As a result of the voting held within the framework of the 66th meeting of the UN World Tourism Organization’s (WTO) Commission for Europe that took place in Athens on June 3, 2021, Armenia was elected a member of the UN WTO Executive Council for the period 2021-2025. At the same time, during the meeting a decision was made that the 67th meeting of the UN WTO Commission for Europe will be held in 2022 in Armenia.
Armenia received 24 votes from the member states of the European region, which was required to be included in the Executive Council of the UN WTO. Armenia’s inclusion in the Executive Council will significantly contribute to expansion of cooperation with the UN WTO.
“This was an important challenge for Armenia, which we overcame with success and honor. I am confident the achievements we registered today will strongly contribute to the increase of Armenia’s recognition and favorable positioning in the international markets”, said Alfred Kocharyan, the Acting Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the RA Ministry of Economy.
Joining the UN WTO Executive Council will promote Armenia’s active participation in the organization’s activities in the coming years, thus improving Armenia’s position in the European region and facilitating the increase of recognizability and expansion of cooperation with other member states in the field of tourism development.
Note: the 66th meeting of the UN WTO Commission for Europe is taking place in Athens on June 2-4, 2021, with the participation of the Armenian delegation.
