On August 13, RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan met with Akbar Fathi, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Agricultural Jihad, on the sidelines of the seventh meeting of the Eurasian Economic Union’s Council on Agro-Industrial Policy, held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Minister Papoyan noted that there is significant potential for cooperation between Armenia and Iran in the agricultural sector, particularly in crop production, livestock farming, agricultural processing, greenhouse farming, and the development of cold storage and warehousing infrastructure.
“Armenia is interested in expanding the presence of competitive Armenian fruits and vegetables, processed products, dried fruits, and other food products in the Iranian market, as well as increasing supplies of high-quality Iranian products to the Armenian market,” Minister Papoyan said.
In the context of current climate challenges, the Minister also emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise in efficient and water-saving irrigation systems, the digitalization of agriculture, and measures to increase productivity.
Minister Papoyan also proposed exploring opportunities for the implementation of joint investment projects in various areas of agriculture.
The two sides also discussed a number of other issues of mutual interest.
