On 7 December 2015, in Brussels, official negotiations were launched establishing a new legal basis for Armenia-EU relations.
The negotiation process on trade and trade-related matters within the future agreement started on 15 February 2016 and was coordinated by the Ministry of Economy of the RA.
On 24 November 2017, the "Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement" (CEPA) was signed between the European Union and the Republic of Armenia. On 1 June 2018, the provisional application of the main provisions of the CEPA entered into force. On 1 March 2021, the CEPA entered fully into force, after it was ratified by the Republic of Armenia, all EU member states and the European Parliament.
CEPA is a comprehensive and ambitious document that includes political, economic, trade and sectoral cooperation at various levels, including civil society.
CEPA will contribute to the expansion of the scope of RA-EU bilateral and sectoral cooperation. It creates a solid basis for continuing economic and social reforms and provides a new and higher level of relations between the EU and Armenia.
The bilateral cooperation in the framework of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement is supported through the bodies established within the CEPA.
Pursuant to Article 363 of the Agreement, the Armenia-EU Partnership Committee was established (coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RA).
The Armenia-EU Partnership Committee in Trade Configuration (coordinated by the Ministry of Economy of the RA) was established to discuss issues related to Title VI of the Agreement (Trade and trade-related matters).
Title VI of the Agreement ("Trade and trade-related matters") consists of 12 chapters:
Armenia-EU Partnership Committee in Trade Configuration
On 25 September 2018 and on 17 October 2019 the first and the second meetings of the Armenia-EU Partnership Committee in Trade Configuration took place in Yerevan and in Brussels․ Committee meetings are held once a year, in rotation, in Yerevan and Brussels. During the meetings, the measures to be implemented in the framework of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement on trade and trade-related matters and relevant roadmaps, as well as various issues related to bilateral cooperation are discussed.
