Purpose of the Project
Support the Government of Armenia in increasing the resilience of agricultural livelihoods and improving food security in rural areas that are highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The “Climate-Adaptive Food Security Enhancement Project” (CAFSEP) will focus on the Shirak and Tavush provinces, where smallholder farmers face challenges from poverty, food insecurity, and climate risks. The end result is to increase the climate resilience of selected rural communities and households.

Key Performance Indicators:
1.1 Initiation of procurement processes and signing of supply and installation contracts for small-scale photovoltaic (PV) solar stations.
1.2 Delivery and installation of 10 small-scale PV solar stations across 10 villages in two regions/communities, covering a total area of 160 square meters on community facilities.
1.3 Establishment of revolving funds, where energy savings from solar PV stations are reinvested into sub-projects supporting sustainable agriculture, food security, and community climate adaptation.
1.4 Community consultations to identify climate-adaptive and income-generating investments that can be financed through energy savings generated by the installed solar stations.
1.5 Training for local authorities and community leaders (including female representatives) on the installation/operation of climate-smart energy systems and reinvestment of energy cost savings.
