RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan and Deputy Minister Arman Khojoyan participated in the International Forum on Food and Agriculture and the 17th Conference of Ministers of Agriculture, held in Berlin.
The conference was attended by agriculture ministers from around 60 countries, along with high-ranking officials from 10 international organizations.
During a discussion titled “Sustainable Development of Biomass,” participants exchanged ideas on food security, climate change, digital technologies, green economy development, and renewable and sustainable biomass.
“Agriculture has always been the cornerstone of Armenia’s economy and culture. Today, the agricultural sector accounts for about 9% of our GDP. However, like many countries, Armenia faces challenges such as climate change, inefficient use of natural resources, biodiversity conservation, and global food security issues.
In Armenia, we view the bioeconomy as a vital path to sustainable development. Our efforts focus on integrating traditional agricultural practices with modern technologies to create value-added products and promote sustainable livelihoods. I believe that by 2025, the Armenian government will approve a framework for a green economy and a green taxonomy, which will open new opportunities for cooperation,” Gevorg Papoyan noted.
The Minister also informed his colleagues that Armenia is honored to host COP17 on Biodiversity in 2026. “We look forward to welcoming you to Armenia to continue these important discussions and deepen our partnership,” he added.
As a result of the conference, a joint communiqué was adopted, promoting the role of agricultural and food trade in ensuring sustainable agriculture and food systems.
